Message from President Cooks Honoring Black History Month 2024

Chabot College honors Black History Month by celebrating the enduring spirit of the Black community through this year’s theme, “African Americans in the Arts: Leaders, Activists, Artist and Educators.”

I am proud of our college’s contribution to this rich legacy by being a conduit for change. Umoja, the statewide program that helps educationally disadvantaged students graduate or transfer to four-year universities, has deep roots in our campus history. The proliferation of the ideas and programs born here, have gone on to impact students across California.

Chabot College continues to be a place where support of all students is mission critical. This past year, we served as a stop on the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) caravan tour and hosted students from colleges all over the Bay Area to meet representatives from the California Community Colleges’ HBCU Transfer Guarantee program. I was proud to join this statewide effort to create pathways for our students.

In fall 2023, we extended Chabot’s direct relationships to HBCUs by signing a commitment between our campus and Miles College, a private, liberal arts Historically Black College. This partnership will also include a Bridge Scholarship to help students transition and succeed at Miles.

As a Black male who was the first in his family to go to college, and as the president of Chabot College, I am inspired by our collective commitment to Black students and for the way your work seeks to ensure that all our students find a supportive learning environment.

I hope you join me in the continued celebration of Black History Month by attending one of the many wonderful events coming up and showing your support by using this BHM Zoom background.

President's Welcome

Welcome to Chabot College! For over 60 years, Chabot has helped students meet their academic, social, and employment dreams, goals and aspirations.

I am honored to start my presidency as Chabot’s 10th College President. I am humbled to lead our prestigious institution and excited about the tremendous potential in our programs and services as we aspire to be the best community college in the state.

Chabot College will start this academic year with a number of established and exciting new programs and resources such as our outstanding HSI STEM grant that promotes a STEM Summer Bridge program, offers embedded tutoring, work-based learning, and comprehensive student services, and encourages completion/transfer to STEM majors at 4-year universities. We are also developing a basic needs student success center, referred to as THE HUB, which will house our food pantry, student direct aid, community resources, CAL Fresh Food assistance, and school supplies. Moreover, our academic offerings have expanded by increasing the number of online classes, non-credit, and dual enrollment offerings.

We are committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and social justice as we provide an encouraging, inspiring, safe, and nurturing learning environment. Chabot College is intentional in our culture of care for keeping students first.  Our Classified Professionals, Faculty, and Administrators are all here to serve you and your educational journey.  We look forward to our time together and opening up your possibilities for a fantastic college experience!
